CLAT is an offline test for admission of candidates to 22 National Law Universities in the country. The examination was conducted by NLUs on a rotational basis till 2018, but a permanent body was formed to organize the test from 2019 onwards. Eligibility Criteria for CLAT
LLB Programme
- Candidate should have completed 10+2 from a recognized board or university.
- General and OBC candidates require 45% marks to appear in the exam whereas SC/ST candidates require 40% marks.
- No upper age limit for candidates.
- Candidates appeared in the March / April 2020 qualifying exam are also eligible to appear in CLAT Entrance Exam.
LLM Programme
- There is no age bar.
- Candidate must have passed the LLB or equivalent exam from a well-known university college.
- Candidates of General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI need 55% marks or it's equivalent to qualify and SC/ST candidates get 5% relaxation in minimum marks.

Syllabus for UG CLAT Exam
English Language
This section tests English proficiency on the basis of understanding passages and grammar questions. Candidates will be given passages of 450 words each based on fiction/ non-fiction, contemporary/historical which could take 5 to 7 minutes to read and understand. Candidates will be asked about their knowledge of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used in it. Candidates will need to know the main concept mentioned in the passage, along with any counter arguments used in the passage.
GK and Current Affairs
In this section also you will be given passages of about 450 words. The passages will be related to news, journals, political issues in India and around the world, arts and culture, historical events etc. The questions can also be asked from the static portion, so try to cover that portion also. For the better preparation of this section, you are suggested to read newspapers daily, magazines and other special programs in media.
Quantitative Technique
Quantitative aptitude or also called Maths section of CLAT UG will include short sets of facts, propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial or diagrammatic representations of numerical information, followed by a series of questions. The questions will be presented in the data interpretation form and you have to gather information from those passages and give an appropriate answer.
Logical Reasoning
This section will analyze the candidate's potential to read and identify logical sequences and arguments, relationships, analogies. The passage of questions will be based around 300 words.
Legal Aptitude
The Legal Reasoning section of the UG CLAT will bring you the passages of about 450 words each. It will test your interest in study of law, research aptitude and problem-solving ability. The questions will be based on legal matters, public policy or moral philosophical enquiries. It will include certain rules and principles that are to be defined and implemented to the questions respectively.
