CLAT 2020 - Application Form (Extended Dates), Exam Pattern, Syllabus

CLAT 2020 will be conducted by NUSRL at Ranchi on 21 June (Date Extended). The exam will be pen-and-paper based and will last for two hours. CLAT is carried out for admission to 5-yr integrated law and LLM courses offered through the 22 collaborating NLUs as well as the other private colleges who use CLAT scores for admission. NLUs have approx 2622 undergraduates and 720 postgraduate seats in a combine. The CLAT 2020 online application form is available from 1 January and the last date for submitting the application form is 18 May.

 
The NLUs Consortium has announced major changes in the CLAT 2020 exam pattern. Earlier the exam pattern consists of 200 questions that were to be attempted in 120 minutes (2 Hours) but for the CLAT 2020, the exam will have 150 questions with a total duration of 120 minutes. In addition, comprehension-based questions will be asked in both UG and PG examinations. The exam duration, test mode, and descriptive questions will remain unchanged in the exam.   • The last date for filing the application form is May 18, 2020. (Date Extended due to COVID-19 Pandemic)
  • For the LLM Admission Test, candidates who obtain 40% (35% in the case of SCT / ST / PWD) of the 100 objective questions will be eligible to evaluate their descriptive answers.
  • Class 12 candidates, with 45% marks (40%to SC, ST) are eligible for CLAT 2020 LLB program. There is no restriction on their age to qualify for the examination.
  • The application fee for General, OBC and EWS category is INR 4000 and INR 3500 for SC and ST candidates.
  • Candidates may download their CLAT 2020 Admit card from the third week of April 2020 on successful registration.
  • The CLAT 2020 will fill approximately 2400 LLB and 550 LLM seats.
  • CLAT 2020 Cutoff will be released separately in the month of July 2020 for 21 NLUs.

CLAT 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidate has to fulfill the following terms and conditions for appearing in CLAT 2020. The CLAT eligibility criteria for UG & PG law courses are as follows:-

Eligibility criteria for UG program:

  • Candidate must have passed 10+2 from a recognized board or university.
  • There is no upper age limit for CLAT 2020.
  • General and OBC candidates require 45% marks to appear in CLAT 2020 whereas SC & ST candidates require 40% marks.
  • Candidates who appeared in the March / April 2020 qualifying exam are also qualified to appear in CLAT 2020.

Eligibility criteria for PG program:

  • There is no upper age limit for CLAT 2020.
  • Candidate must have passed the LLB or equivalent exam from a recognized university.
  • General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI category candidates require 55% marks or its equivalent to qualify whereas SC/ST candidates get 5% relaxation in minimum marks.
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam in April/May 2020 may also apply.

CLAT 2020 Application Form

Candidate looking for admission to UG and PG law courses offered by participating NLUs had to fill the online application form of CLAT 2020. Candidate needs to visit the official CLAT website to access the Common Law Admission Test application form from 1 January. The last date to fill CLAT application form is May 18, 2020. Below are the steps to be followed for CLAT 2020 Registration:-

  1. Candidate has to register first by entering the details - name, date of birth, email id and mobile number.
  2. Proceed to fill the required section details in the application form that includes personal details, qualification details, and contact details.
  3. Upload scanned copies of photograph and signature with required documents as per the defined guidelines.
  4. The final step is to pay the application fee via online mode (Debit/Credit or Net Banking) or offline (Bank Challan).

CLAT 2020 Admit Card

CLAT 2020 Admit Card is an important document that is required not only for sitting in the exam but also for the completion of other admission formalities, such as counselling. Therefore, until the admission process is over the candidate must keep the CLAT 2020 card safe and secure. CLAT Admit Card will be released in the first week of May 2020. To download the Admit Card, candidate must visit the official website and login by entering the registration ID and password.

Exam Pattern for UG (LLB Course)

  • The question paper will contain five sections for undergraduate courses, which include- English (Comprehension), General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability), Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning.
  • Question paper for the UG program will cover 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQ).
  • The candidate will be awarded 1 mark for every correct answer, and the ¼ mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Exam Pattern for PG (LLM Course)

  • Postgraduate courses will include three sections - Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, IPR, etc.
  • Question paper for the PG program will have 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQ).
  • Each question carries 1 mark and the ¼ mark will be deducted for the wrong attempt.
  • PG course will also have 2 subjective questions carrying 25 marks each and a combined total of 50 marks.

CLAT 2020 Syllabus

The NLU Consortium releases the official CLAT Syllabus, and there are no changes to the curriculum. The CLAT 2020 Syllabus for the UG program is as follows:

CLAT 2020 Answer Key

The officials will release the provisional answer key of CLAT 2020 after the completion of exam. The provisional answer key for CLAT 2020 will be released for all four paper codes-A, B, C, and D-and will include code-wise keys to all questions raised during the examination. For UG and PG programs the answer key will be different.

CLAT 2020 Result

NUSRL, Ranchi will declare the result of CLAT 2020 in the July month. Candidate can check the result by entering registered Email ID and Password into the result portal. The CLAT result will show important details such as the candidate's qualifying status, marks, and rank obtained in the exam. Below are the steps to check CLAT result:

CLAT 2020 Cut off

Cut off is the minimum score required to be obtained to take part in the counselling procedure. In order to be admitted to the participating NLU, the candidate must meet the CLAT 2020 cut-off for the specific institute and the category to which they belong.

Candidates must score at least 40% (35% for SC, ST & PWD) marks in order to qualify in the objective paper. Only those candidates who qualify for the objective paper will be included in the descriptive paper. The paper will consist of 100 objective type questions.

CLAT 2020 Counselling

The CLAT 2020 counselling and seat allotment process will be carried out in online mode by NUSRL, Ranchi. The counseling process is open to CLAT-qualified candidates only; eligible candidates would be provided with counseling call letters to be downloaded. Candidates will be allocated seats on a merit-cum-preference basis. Candidates must indicate their online preference for NLUs where they want to take admission.

How to attend CLAT Counselling?

Step 1: Visit the official CLAT website and click the 'CLAT Counselling 2020' link.

Step 2: Log in with User Id and Password.

Step 3: Click on the 'Counseling' tab.

Step 4: Go through the NLU's indicative seat allocation list.

Step 5: Pay the required amount of CLAT 2020 counselling fee.

Step 6: Exercise the‘ Seat Lock’ option given against the allotted NLU.

Step 7: Save a copy of the allocated list of NLU seats.

CLAT 2020 FAQs

Common Law Admission Test or CLAT exam is conducted on the month of MAY every year.

The authorities have removed the upper age limit since 2016. However, the lower age limit to be applied online is less than 20 years of age as of 1 July 2020 (22 years in the case of SC / ST and Disability Candidates).

There are 2300 seats available for UG law programme and 507 seats for PG law programme through CLAT 2020.

CLAT 2020 exam will be conducted in offline mode, the exam will be pen-paper based. Previously, the exam was conducted in computer-based mode.

There are 19 NLUs providing admission to law-aspirants as per their scores in CLAT 2020. There are total 2984 seats offered by National Law Universities. The number of seats has also increased, as two additional NLUs have been added.

LSAT-India is a standardised test adopted as an admissions criterion by multiple law colleges across India.

The term means the allocation of seats will be given according to the score of the candidate in CLAT 2020 and the order of preference given at the time of registration.
